Review: King Cage Mini Thing Cage

The folks at King Cage have been hand making innovative, bomber and unique gear for years. I have been using the Many Thing for holding dry bags and 48oz Nalgene bottles for years. This winter I used their flat top cage to hold insulated bottles. So when they released the Mini Thing cage I had to pick a pair of them up. The Mini Thing is as the name implies a smaller version of the Many Thing.

The Mini Thing is a two bolt version of the Many Thing made of solid titanium tubing that secure your bottle with a small Voile strap. You can choose from two size straps when you pick up your King Cage. I went for the longer so it could hold a Nalgene.

The Mini Thing will also fit on your fork legs and anywhere else you have bottle cage mounts. Why would you choose the Mini Thing over the Many Thing? Well if you are just carrying bottles to drink from two Voile Straps can be annoying to keep fiddling with every time you want a drink. With the Mini Thing it is one strap and you are drinking your favorite cold drink.

Now you might recall I reviewed a pair of Rivendell Jim’s Cage a while back. Frankly they were just too flimsy for me. I had to bend them back in to shape constantly. Although on this frame I could fit two Nalgenes in the main triangle, with these I can’t. But this is fine, the ice melted from the second before I got to it. Now I fill the second with ice and by the time the first is empty I am set. But I will also use these in the summer bikepacking on the fork legs. They are a deal for handmade titanium bottle cages that will outlast all of your bikes at $45 each.
