Review: Hestra Ergo Grip Active Gloves

Shoulder season is a tricky one, getting the right glove for those high output cold days is difficult.

Down in Boulder, CO there is an amazing mountaineering store called Neptune Mountaineering, I happen to just be perusing one day and saw these Hestra Ergo Grip Active gloves. What caught my eye initially was the price tag! At $110 they are not cheap at all. But as I was trying them on one of the staff asked me if I had ever owned any Hestra gloves. In fact I have two pairs, the Basic Mitt and the Army Leather Heli Ski Mitten, so they said “Oh you know the quality then, you’ll only buy these once.” And you know what, they were not lying. I have had those other Hestra gloves for about 8 years and quite a bit of use, still like new.

This is a small light glove that is packed with warmth and breathability. The fleece lining and Wind Stopper material are just great for cold hikes or mountain biking in the fall. I even use them as liner gloves on big mountain days.

The palm is full leather, which works great when holding an ice axe or handlebar, plus they are great when you need dexterity like putting snowshoes or crampons on.

The back is  Wind Stopper and the cut is super ergonomic with reinforcement on the index finger.

The TL;DR; this gloves are great, they will last for years and years of heavy use, are warm while breathing well. They can be used for mountain biking, hiking, camping and anything where you need a lightweight very warm glove.
