I have been using Outdoor Research gaiters for 20 years. But in the desert the gaiters use case is quite different than mountaineering. I want to keep light fluffy snow out of my boots and keep my pants dry. I’m not going to be post-holing up to my waist in corn snow high above treeline. These Outdoor Design Perma eVent Gaiters are perfect for lesser snow fall like here in the high desert.
These gaiters are made of super breathable eVent fabric which has so far never had me left me with sweaty ankles and pants below my gaiters.
There is elastic around the bottom to make a tight seal with your boot, they secure with a zipper and velcro.
So this is pretty telling to me about how good they are, here I am crossing the 6th stream of the hike on a 20° day. Everything was dry when I got back to the car.
Anyhow if you need some gaiters and you won’t be in waist deep powder I would get these in a heartbeat.
