I picked these Atlas Stratus Snowshoes up over the summer because the folks in the shop said the binding was really neat. They were wrong. On my first use of them I went backpacking. With a solid 5 foot snowpack and a fresh foot overnight I went to tighten the snowshoe with the BOA binding and it snapped off. Miles from the trailhead I post-holed for hours because of a cheap plastic part
A BOA is an overly complex ratchet that uses a kevlar cord through a small piece of plastic. if you tighten the boa down it will snap the little piece of plastic rendering the snowshoe useless.
My old Tubbs Altitude never have had a problem in 15 years of use. These broke literally the first time I used them.
Not a good place to have a broken snowshoe.
Also the rear strap is this little rubber thing which just kind of flaps around when using them.
What more can be said about these garbage snowshoes? Oh yes, they cost $250, Sorel sized shoes don’t fit the binding and Atlas won’t publish negative reviews on their website. Believe me, I tried.
