Trip Report: Backpacking Thunder Lake in Spring

Wildbasin is one of my favorite places in RMNP, well to be honest, anywhere. And spring backpacking in the mountains always presents a cool challenge. Starting in the trailhead everything is dry and warm. The creeks are flowing.

It is only 6.5 miles to the lake, but the last mile was snow, uneven wet snow. Drifty for a bit, then it just turned in to 5′ of snow.

But oh the lake was great.

My tent spot was just great and temp were warm.
