Review: Montbell Down Pants : Great Backpacking Gear

Winter backpacking is super fun; if you have the right gear. I sleep comfy in  a 0° bag from Therm-A-Rest (Altair) which keeps me warm while being lighter and packing smaller than most bags. That said you can get a -20°F bag but it will be a huge bag. Frankly it will take up more than it’s share of your pack.  What I have been doing is staying crazy warm in a pair of down pants from Montbell. They add an amazing amount of additional warmth in while keeping weight and space to a minimum. Plus if you have to jump out of your tent to answer the call of nature or take pics of a glowing tent at night you’ll stay warm.

They pack down so damn small.

If you are going winter camping hook yourself up with a pair of these Montbell Down Pants. I will not go backpacking in the winter without them.
