I went out this weekend for a little adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park. While I was cooking dinner in the snow I realized the piece of gear with the biggest impact on backpacking in the past few years is the MSR Windburner Stove.
Why you may be asking? Well I used to just go backpacking with a bunch of PB&Js or cheese sandwiches. In the winter that would lead to me shivering in my tent. But with the Windburner I am so much happier having hot meals, boiling snow for water and boiling a Nalgene up for heating up the sleeping bag.
It weighs nothing and I always bring it with me now. So if you are still using a white gas stove ditch it and get one of these.
