RedFox is a new to me company with a shop down in Boulder. Interestingly it is located right next door to Patagonia. So comparing what many think of as a benchmark of quality is easy. The quality looks better but the prices are more reasonable. I picked up a Alpha Jacket this winter and have been wearing the hell out of it.
The RedFox Alpha is a combo of a Polartec windproof shell insulated with Polartec Alpha. Polartec Alpha is basically shredded fleece used as installation instead of something like down or Primaloft. It packs down incredibly small and is easy to wash unlike down. Which is important if you wear a coat while pushing the pace on your hike or ride.
The RedFox Alpha jacket has Powerstretch pro in the pits and wrists for breathability and a tight closure. I have used the coat fat biking, hiking and mountaineering.
There are two waist pockets and a chest pocket. The collar goes very high and provides plenty of warmth from wind and cold.
As you can see the hood is well design to provide plenty of coverage and even fit under a helmet.
This has been a favorite jacket of mine this winter. It is cut on the slim side so if you wear a light base layer it will fit fine, but if you wear a heavy fleece it will be tight. You should get this coat.

Warm, light, breathable, and extra compressible – the perfect layer to suck moisture away and hold on to heat. Made with Polartec® Alpha® Fabric, this is one of the warmest mid-layers you can buy. A thin outer shell of ripstop nylon sheds snow, light rain, and endures sharp edges. Beneath, this thin, wind blocking fabric the airy lightness of Polartec® Alpha® lures sweat from your skin to keep you dry while simultaneously creating a dead space to trap heat. Side panels of Polartec® PowerStretch® Pro vent persperation from your arms and pits, and hug your body to wick moisture away fast. Plus there’s a hood to stay warm when the wind blows. When the sun comes out, you can stuff this packable layer into it’s own pocket to save space in your pack!
