Review: Paul Lover Lever 2.5

A few months ago I needed upgrade the brakes on my Surley Pugsley Neckromancer . Needed? Well maybe needed is a strong word. I wanted to upgrade the brakes on my Neckromancer. I am a huge fan of Avid BB7 brakes, I have them on a number of my bikes. But the Avid FR5 levers just had so much flex in them they never felt great. I emailed the people at Paul’s Comp to find out which of their American made brakes were most like old XTR V-Brake levers. They recommended the Love Lever 2.5.

The feel is fantastic. Actually when paired with Jagwire Mountain Pro Brake cables they feel every bit as good as my XT Hydro if not better.

Paul’s hand makes the Love Lever 2.5 in their California offices. These brakes have amazing attention to detail. As an example look at the cable adjusters. Big adjusters easy to grab with gloves on.

The levers are rebuildable with c-clips holding them together.

The cable end made a tiny squeak in when I first put them in. One drop of Boeshield T-9 and I never heard it again.

I love the Paul’s Lover 2.5. They make the braking so positive and the feel is amazing. Anytime you can support an American company making an absolutely top notch product you have to. If you need cable brake levers pick these up.

Our Love Lever brake levers are machined in house to exacting specifications. Their design balances comfort and weight without feeling flimsy in your hand.
The Love Lever Compact has a lever blade that is about 20mm shorter than the 2.5 model. The Compact fits two fingers comfortably and has a lighter weight.
These levers are compatible with all long pull cable operated brakes. We recommend them for use with our Motolite brakes, but they will work well paired with any v-brake, mechanical disk brake, or other long pull brake. For a short pull brake lever see our Canti Lever.
The pivot features a lightweight hollow pin made of stainless steel, and its large bearing surface and precise machining reduces play while allowing the lever to swing smoothly. Spare parts are available for pivot overhauls.
A 5mm set screw in the side of the lever perch allows you to adjust the reach, setting the distance from the bar to the lever to fit your hands.
Barrel adjusters are included for fine-tuning your brakes, and their oversized design and smooth shape makes it easy to adjust them by hand.
Love Levers are one of our perennial best sellers, and we believe you’ll love the action and the ergonomics of these beauties.
