A few months ago I needed upgrade the brakes on my Surley Pugsley Neckromancer . Needed? Well maybe needed is a strong word. I wanted to upgrade the brakes on my Neckromancer. I am a huge fan of Avid BB7 brakes, I have them on a number of my bikes. But the Avid FR5 levers just had so much flex in them they never felt great. I emailed the people at Paul’s Comp to find out which of their American made brakes were most like old XTR V-Brake levers. They recommended the Love Lever 2.5.
The feel is fantastic. Actually when paired with Jagwire Mountain Pro Brake cables they feel every bit as good as my XT Hydro if not better.
Paul’s hand makes the Love Lever 2.5 in their California offices. These brakes have amazing attention to detail. As an example look at the cable adjusters. Big adjusters easy to grab with gloves on.
The levers are rebuildable with c-clips holding them together.
The cable end made a tiny squeak in when I first put them in. One drop of Boeshield T-9 and I never heard it again.
I love the Paul’s Lover 2.5. They make the braking so positive and the feel is amazing. Anytime you can support an American company making an absolutely top notch product you have to. If you need cable brake levers pick these up.
