To make the camera easy to access I use a Lowepro Dashpoint 20. The Dashpoint 20 attaches to a shoulder strap with velcro and opens with an easy to use zipper. It is even easy to open with gloves on while riding.
The Dashpoint 20 protects your camera swaddled in its padded compartment. There is room for an extra memory stick in the inside cover.

The Panasonic GM1 is a bit deeper than a regular point and shoot since it is not one. The Dashpoint 20 fits the cmaera without a problem, it even fits with the 17mm Olympus lens on the camera.
