Review: Sierra Design Flex Down Jacket

I have been wearing a Sierra Designs Flex Down Jacket this winter. On really cold days there is nothing better.

The Flex Down Jacket is crazy warm, while not being overly puffy. The fit is snug compared to most down coats which keeps you much warmer. And since the insulation is down, it packs down well. I always carry it in my backpack for descents and on winter backpacking trips.

The insulated collar and hood provide great coverage.  It is surprising just how much warmer an  insulated hood keeps you.

The details in this jacket are what puts it over the top. The chin area on the collar is lined with fleece.

The jacket has an inside chest pocket, that nicely fits a map or an iPhone.

Then there are two large pockets on the inside of the coat for holding water bottles.

The jacket is beyond warm, it has 750 Fill Down which will keep you warm on the longest descents. In fact it is so warm there is no need to layer underneath this coat. I have had a few Primaloft coats which can’t compare to the furnace like warmth of this coat.

Sierra Designs says:
