I get really cold hands in the winter, which is why I have gone on and on about gloves on this blog. The Craft Lobster Claws are great, but when it gets really cold I have to go straight up mitten. I like the OR PL 400 Mitten.
It uses two layers of fleece, a 300 weight outside and a 100 weight inside. The outside is smooth so light snow does not stick to it, you would need a shell over it if you were in deep powder or in heavy snow.
The palm and thumb have rubber gripper on them.Which is really handy when you are actually trying to hold on to something.
Oh and a really nice touch, the cord on the cuff to make pulling them on easier. Which comes in handy when you already have one of the mittens on.
This is a really nice warm glove for using in the cold. When it gets ridiculous out, I use a thin liner underneath it, and a goretex mitt over it. I use a really old set of OR shells, which after 10 years are finally worn out. I think I will pick up a pair of their Endeavor mitts, which are made out of Goretex Paclite.
