I know this is an outdoor gear blog, but I wanted to mention my Canon S90. This past week I was hiking in the rain, slipped and fell on the camera, I thought for sure the camera was broken. Nope…
I have been using the Canon S90 since this past winter and have used it every since on all of my hikes, bike rides, vacations and everything in between.
It is a great small camera that fits in a pocket. It can shoot a great picture in full automatic mode, but it also has aperture, shutter speed, priority, or let you take full control in manual mode. There are scene modes for taking pictures at the beach, flowers, portraits and other modes. It takes great pics in low light using its high ISO capabilities.
But what I’d like to really mention is how tough this camera is. I was taking pics on a rainy day while standing on a moss covered rock by the river. Well I slipped and fell on my butt. On the way down I snapped this picture before I slammed the camera on the rock.
The lens was all the way out when I fell and I scratched the lens barrel, not the glass! The lens would not retract either since I had knocked it off the track and wedged it funny. Well I snapped it back in to place and assumed it was broken. Nope, this thing is tough! It still takes perfect pictures.
The S95 is out now, and I will only buy Canon point and shoots from now on. The beating this took when I fell, and how this thing just kept working is amazing.
Almost all the photos on the blog are from the S90, many with the self timer.
I purchased it from B And H Photo who has great service and will send you your receipt as a PDF in the event you need in the future.
This is one of my favorite pictures I took with it recently.
