Review: Spot Brand Chain Guard

I’ll let you in on a secret, I suck at jumping logs. Well that’s not true. I suck at jumping anything. I also realize I never use my big ring. I added a Spot Brand Chain Guard to my XT cranks on my mountain bike.

I like it because it allows a little more clearance, and when it does make contact it just slides and does not bend. Also it is lighter than a big ring.

It is about 3mm thick and after more than a few encounters with logs and rocks it hasn’t bent at all. It is similar to the old school rock ring from the 90s, but its not incredibly heavy and big.

Here is a shot from the other side to get an idea of the size on a 34T chain ring.
