You get what you pay for

When we got our last subaru in the summer of 2006, we put a Thule rack on with bike trays from Rocky Mounts. Rocky Mounts are a Boulder, CO based business and a bunch of our friends were on the team so we purchased from them.

First they sold us a Noose without a Thule rack, but that didn’t work out, the bars of our mountain bikes hit each other. So we returned it and bought the Thule rack and the Lariat. Seriously within a month the quick release was rusted and this little washer broke.

Anyhow Fast forward 3 years, I tried to take one rail off of the top to put on another car, everything was rusted shut. The big problem was that they use plastic to secure metal lag bolts. So what happens when the metal parts are seized? The metal spins and tears the plastic apart.

I have had a Thule racks on my cars for 15 years, never had that problem. I had to cut the mounting brackets of the Rocky Mounts off with a dremel.

Anyhow they have been replaced with Thule Echelon bike trays.
