When I built up the Turner I decided it was the right time to replace the old XT Cranks with new XT cranks. This is my first set of external bearing cranks. I have a pedros socket that will install the bottom bracket, but nothing to tighten the crank arm on to the spindle. Now admittedly It only calls for 1NM, so you could probably use your thumb… But cranks are getting pricy! So why risk it.
I picked up a neat little tool, the Ice Toolz Hollow Tech II tool. It consists of an 8mm allen socket with a ball bearing in it to keep the tool on. Then the tool itself is two sided, one for the BB cups, the other to attach to the crank to the spindle.
Here it is on the wrench…
And here it is on the crank.
It looks like Nashbar sells the same tool under their name. So you could probably get it there using some 10% coupon. Its an ingeniously thought out little tool.
Thanks for the review! Will get one of those.
