I raced the Grove City/Month of Mud Cross Race.
Damn it was fun! It was a great course, a touch of road, a bit of dirt, even dare I say singletrack then a bunch of grass. I lined up in the front
What was rad was almost the whole front row was dudes from the Wednesday Cross Practice up in Frick. There was some shit talking on the line between me, lomax and beardo.
The start was packed!
That is me in the CMU kit, Lomax in the wool, a rad old dude named Charlie in the Dirty Harry’s jersey and some dude who was on my wheel for 2 laps and then dropped me like I was standing still. Red bike/jersey dude, I tip my hat to you.
Here I am remounting on one of the two sets of barriers. I look really fat in this pic, this has added to my goal to lose more weight, need to get down 6 pounds to my fighting weight.
This is the second cross race I have done since coming out of retirement. With that in mind and my laughably low self esteem I signed up for the c/beginner. I won that handily and would have come in 11th in the b/sports. Now I will upgrade to B.
The bike was perfect on this course which had a bit of singletrack. I ran 42psi in the front and rear and never felt like the tires slipped. The tires were Michelin Muds, since that is all I run. On the opening sprint I thought for 1 sec about getting out of my 36 tooth, but never did and it just works, never thought about the bike, which means it is the right bike.
All pics are courtesy of Aaron over at mtbshelmire.blogspot.com. A fellow CMU nerd, except he’s crazy fast and has mad skills on a bike. Speaking of CMU Ben, took 1st in the sport making it a clean sweep of B/C for CMU! Who cares if I am sand bagger, a win is a win.
