Review: Velo Orange Bell (again!)

Here we go again, I love this bell from Velo Orange.
For $15 you get a bell on on 10mm spacer.
Which I like since my bars are a bit crowded.
It has this little spring mounted “dinger”. I dig this, since I have to cut through a few miles of trails on the way to work, nothing gets peoples attention like the bell. Like I said before, you always get a big smile out of people when they turn around and see a grown ass man ringing the bell not an 8 year old girl.

This particular bell came with a hair trigger, it would ding when riding over even the slightest bump in the road. I just unscrewed the bell, switched arund a few washers and it is fixed.

You can pick it up in brass, silver stem or spacer mount at Velo Orange.

  1. These bells are great. I’ve had several over the years now, originally from Riv and Jitensha (having broke the stem on one, x too many bikes).

The way to address the hair-trigger ring once and for all, as well as route to a more robust “PING!”, is to go for the spring-loaded-striker versions. Also, avoid the aluminum and go for the brass. Better tone.

The other hack with these is to mount them on the (e.g.: right-hand) DT shifter boss. The thread of the bell is M5, and it can just replace the bolt (if you’re using the barrel-adjuster cable stops).
