Review: Timbuk2 DeeDog (now the Classic)

The DeeDog was the middle size Timbuk2 back in the day. Its 1800 in^3. Now they call it the classic, it is a classic so thats a fitting name.

I bought this bag way back in college and have used it for the last 11 years almost daily. As you know messenger bags look good, they work great and Timbuk2 gear lasts forever.

Shit that bag looks good… the bag has the edge that will never dull.

Outside
Like all timbuk2 bags this is made out of waterproof truck tarp. The DeeDog bag has a shoulder strap with a built in quick adjuster, which is great when your load changes all the time. It has clip on reflectors which are bright as hell. I did replace these with LEDs on my bag, but thats me, It has quick release buckles for securing the top flap, plus velcro for when you are in a hurry. Seriously this bag can hold a TON of stuff. This bag has been around the world and kept everything in it bone dry. Nothing has broken on it, nothing has worn out. The only reason I replaced it was that it has gotten really ratty looking and I guess I am supposed to look professional. I do have an office now…

Inside
Under the flap is a zippered pocket, pen holders, abd a bigger non zippered external pocket. Inside the main compartment is one huge pocket, there is a small flap with some more pen holders, a decent sized internal pocket for your wallet and a tube and another pocket for glasses or a cell phone.

Using it
I hate to say anything bad about this bag for fear it will come to life and attack me for all the years of service it has given me. The only thing I can think of it has to be packed right or stuff is going to poke you in the kidneys.

When i was in school and used it for books, lock and jacket it was fine. But holding the lappy, clothes and a lock it is just too full to be comfortable on my commute. But I didn’t think I’d have a laptop when I bought the thing.

Timbuk2 uses flash so I can’t cut and paste the bag description. But here is the classic now –
