Review: Outdoor Research Water Bottle Parka

I have been using an Outdoor Research Water Bottle Parka for the better part of 18 years. I use them to keep the drinks cold in the summer and from freezing while backpacking in the winter.

It does it’s job remarkably well,  ice water can stay cold for hours in the Moab desert in the summer and my drinks just do not freeze in the winter! The new version has a fleece inside.

The water bottle parka has a velcro attachment point.

A Nalgene fits right inside.

So all in all it works. But I like the older one more. If you notice in the pic above the water bottle is well below the opening. So you have to pull the bottle up to drink from in. Not a big deal, but the fleece inside sticks to a bottle with condensation, making it a real pain.

The older version was better as the opening was much lower.

Then the inside was made from smooth nylon making removing the bottle super easy.

The new works to keep drink cold and warm, but if you can find an older model I say go for it. OR makes awesome stuff. I’ve never been disappointed with anything I have purchased from them. This included, but I just dig the older one better.
