If you are anything like me, you ride your fat bike year round. And in the desert I tend to leave the big tires on all year. But I have been doing a few longer rides on doubletrack and singletrack that is not a sand pit. That is where a 29×3″ setup shines.
As you may notice in these pics, 29×3 and 26×4.8 are essentially the same height, meaning no pedal strike or other odd handling.
You immediately notice how much livelier these wheels feel. I am using a set of DT350 hubs laced to WTB KOM Tough i40 rims and Maxxis DHF and DHR 29 x 3.0″, EXO/TLR tires. I am running 9 PSI in them and they have been great for tame singletrack and bikepacking.
You should get a pair, I had mine made by Mike C at LaceMine29.com
It really makes your fat bike even more useful. I highly recommend you add a set to your stable of wheels.
Two views of the same beautiful beast.
Awesome. I really want a Fat Ti bike for this same purpose.
