Review: NiteRider Evolution Smart

UPDATE: I take it all back… well it is bright, but now it has a problem, the power meter does not work and it is generally beign a pain in my ass.

I have owned many a light system in my day. This is a great commuting/night bike riding light. First since we are all about commuting here at robonza lets just say the 15w blinking mode that the evolution smart has is really great. On rainy rides, or early morning rides that 15w blinking light really gets attention. Plus this light can hook in to the NiteRider blinking tail light.

It has 3 brightness levels 5-10-15, and another mode of blinking,SOS, and 3w walking mode. At the full 15 watts it lasts about 1:45 and at 10w it runs almost 3. Who cares about the 5w, you probably won’t use that. It has an LED battery level meter on it, which is quite handy so you don’t get caught off gaurd with a dead battery.

It includes a helmet mount, awesome bar mount, quick charger (2.5 hours), useless wired remote on/off switch and an extension cord.

I dig it.

Drawback? The supplied velcro strap for the battery is just too long for my steel free. It flaps loose when I ride… not the end of the world. But if they had just made the strap double sided velcro it’d be perfect.
