I have wanted to purchase a grocery bag pannier for a while now. This nashbar one is always on sale for $10, why not give it a shot? They are easily worth $10, not much more.
But Joe, you have ortlieb panniers already, why get a grocery specific one?
Good question. I often swing by Whole Foods on the way home from work, but don’t want to lug around two empty ortlieb panniers all day and through the grocery store. Plus these panniers fold flat when not in use. I am not touring with these, only carrying some tofu and vegetables.
These things are nice for the price! They fold flat:
They come with a rain cover, which is stored in a zippered pocket in the bottom:
The bag attaches with a set of hooks:
These are incredibly handy for carrying groceries or as pictured carrying awkward sized boxes to Mail Boxes Etc. I would not go touring with them, they are well built considering the price, but I wouldn’t haul tons weight in them.
If you see them on sale for $10 go for it. I prefer the Lone Peak Grocery Pannier, I would buy those instead, they are made significantly better.
That’s a sweet bike. I wish I had bought it…
I just want to thank you so much for both your review and pictures of the Nashbar Townie Basket. I’ve been investigating different panniers and I discovered the Nashbar, but I couldn’t find anywhere online, information on how it attaches to the bike. It looks like it uses a similar system to the more expensive Jandd pannier, which is fantastic.
regards,
great review, im in the market for some bags and found a recommendation for this bag on another site but he didn’t really show the bag in so much detail, which was just what i was looking for, thanks!
