Review: Outdoor Research Endeavor Mitts

After 10 years my old Outdoor Research(OR) mittens wore out. This is fine, since I used them for years from everything from mountaineering, snow shoeing, mountain biking and everything in between. They lasted longer than any other glove I have owned.

I decided to replace them with another pair of OR mittens, the Endeavor Mittens. The Endeavor Mitts are made out of Goretex Paclite with a reinforced palm.

The Endeavor mitt has an ingenious  gauntlet closure to keep heat in and snow and water out, you just pull the gray side to tighten it, and the black side to loosen it. What makes this nice is how easy it is to use while wearing mittens. much less fussy than big velcro straps.

And then to keep the gloves in place there is a webbing strap which tighten the mittens at the wrist.

Another  really nice feature is a sewn in webbing loop to pull the gloves on, this comes in handy when you already have a fleece mitten on.

The Endeavor Mitten has removable “Idiot Cords” to secure the glove to your arm. Which is really nice for keeping you glove from falling in the snow when you are taking it on and off to mess with your camera in the cold. They are much more practical too, they prevent your glove from blowing away and getting lost.

And just for comparisons sake, I had mentioned before I wanted a smaller mitten using when you are not climbing a mountain. Well these are the perfect mitten for that. Here is a pic of the Endeavor Mitt next to my old OR mittens. The Endeavor is on the bottom.

I really like these gloves. I have used them in wet snow for hours, the GoreTex Paclite breaths really well and you don’t end up with sweaty hands even on long hikes. I have worn them with OR 400 PL Mittens and a light liner underneath and used them down in single digits and been fine.
