Since I admitted to myself that I love knickers, ok lets call a spade a spade- capri’s, I have been on the hunt for the best pair. Well I found them. The Outdoor Research Ferossi 3/4 Pants are a fine pair of manpri’s for riding or hiking.
They have two side pockets and a hip pocket.
Plus two rear zippered pockets.
On the bike they reach just a few inches below the knee.
Off the bike they are about mid calf.
They are made of really light weight fabric that breaths incredibly well. On this ride it started in the 50s, then went up to 70°F and went back down when the sun set. These are great, I got back to the car and the OR Ferrosi 3/4 pants were totally dry. Another really nice feature is that they have belt loops.
my bike looks really weird in this picture, like it has two different size wheels? |
Bottom Line:
I really like these, I tried some other capris/manpris/shpants/clam diggers/knickers before but these are by far the best I have worn. They are from OR, so you know they are a great quality. So my search is over for the perfect knickers.
Outdoor Research says:
Lightweight, rugged, and wind-resistant, the highly breathable soft shell fabric of these pants offers ample stretch for smooth movement and tough abrasion-resistance against rough rock. Cut longer than a short to protect knees, but shorter than pants to keep out of the way of fancy footwork, these 3/4 pants are just the right length. Ideal for scrambling and climbing, they offer burly protection for dancing up tight chimneys or squeezing through narrow slot canyons.
Hey, those manpris are kinda cool on the bike. Are they real baggy at the calf?
Hey Mike – They are not really baggy at the calf. While on the bike they don't flap in the breeze, they fit just ride.
Off the bike they have a bit more room at the calf since they hang lower.

How's the waist sizing Mike? I wear a 31. Not sure whether to go up or down.
I'd be interested in the sizing as well…MHW never seems to fit as advertised, sometimes medium, sometimes large….wandering about the ferosi. I'm a true 33 with a tape measure and was wondering if I should size the ferosi up or down to the 32 or 34…I would be wearing them for climbing and commute biking…cant stand feeling bunchy but dont want them falling off, would love to hear feedback. thanks for the great write up
