Review: Mystery Ranch Skyline 17

I have been doing more day hikes than ever before, I think it has to do with socially distancing and being in a place where I can head right out my door to the trails. With that I was looking for a new pack for 3-4 hours in the sun and I picked up the Mystery Ranch Skyline 17.

What I was looking for was a pack that could fit a few Nalgenes, snacks and a camera. The other feature I was looking for was ice axe loops for some snow climbs in the La Sals. Although that’ll have to wait until next spring.  One of the things you notice about this pack is the quality of it, it is built to last like all Mystery Ranch packs. As an example it can stand up on its own when empty.
The pack has removable side compression straps, a removable waist belt and a removable jacket/rope loop on the top.
There is plenty of room inside, with gussets to make sure everything does not fall out if it starts to open, and a zippered pocket for your keys/wallet.
On the outside there is a pocket for your bars or phone. Now on mine the first one I purchased the zipper failed on the second hike, But they quickly sent a replacement bag out and return shipping on the defective one.
The shoulder pads are shaped and have a good amount of padding, the back panel is well padded too.

All in all this is a very nicely made pack and quite a deal at less than $100. If you need a day pack, climbing pack or just a great looking bag check out the Mystery Ranch Skyline 17.
The SKYLINE 17 is a streamlined yet versatile climbing pack covers the basic needs and then some of what a climber demands. Small in stature, its simple and flexible. It’s the perfect bag to be worn for a few pitches or drug up though tight chimneys.
