I think 3/4 of this blog is glove related, I have cold hands. On the bike, bar mitts have made all the difference. But out hiking I have been using glove systems. I layer with a thin liner, then a wool or fleece mitten and cover it all with a goretex glove cover. But I finally took the plunge and bought down mittens.
I picked up Montbell Down Gore Wind Stopper Mittens. they are huge, bulky, warm and awesome. These come with a stuff sack and pack down to about the size of a softball. They even have grippy material on the palms to hold on to poles, axes, etc.
Down mittens are great.
*Normally I’d post a more detailed review and a link to Montbell, but it looks like they don’t sell these anymore.
Yes they do! Saw them at a Montbell store in boulder, co just yesterday. The real question is how durable were they? Are they still going strong? Or did they last you only a month? I'd be interested to hear how they did for you in the long term.
Hey Mr s – well I should update this post! I like these mittens and they have held up…. But the problem with the. Is they have way too much insulation at the wrist and not enough on the hand. There are better gloves for the money. neptune has some great Rab mittens in stock.
