Review: Specialized Rime Mountain Bike Shoes with Vibram Sole

The Specialized Rime Mountain Bike Shoe is quite possibly the perfect mountain bike shoe. Yup, I said it. The Rime is great because it has features like a Vibram sole, Boa adjustment and a lightweight breathable upper.

Probably the greatest thing about the Specialized Rime is the Vibram sole. Seriously I have no idea why 90% of mountain bike shoes have soles made out of hard plastic blocks coated in what I can only assume is a mix of teflon and ice. Which is terrible when you are walking down slippery rocks.

The outsole provides tons of traction with large knobs which stick to rocks and dirt. You might think this is a compromise shoe, not really meant for “serious” riding. You’d be wrong, the midsole is rigid providing a great platform for riding on.

Initially I was apprehensive of the Boa closure system, but it works great. It makes adjustment a breeze, and it is totally replaceable if it wears out.

I am really psyched on these shoes. I have been looking for a long time for mountain bike shoes with a Vibram sole and could not be more pleased. They sacrifice nothing in performance at all. So if you need new mountain bike kicks, pick these up.
