Oh Chicken Tramper Ultralight Gear where have you been all my life? Back in the fall I stumbled upon CTUG when looking for a custom camera attachment. After the camera bag arrived I quickly ordered a CTUG 25 day pack. Being custom and handmade in the US I had a 2 month wait, but it was SO worth it. The CTUG 25 is an ultralight daypack made out of X-PAC and designed to be used. Clearly these folks hike, and hike a lot to test out their designs, every last detail of the CTUG 25 is well thought out.
Let’s get down to the details.
The pack has a huge central compartment that uses a simple roll top closure, but note the velcro at the top. The little detail keeps the top tighten when you are rolling it up.
The roll top closes with a central clip and two side straps.
The side pockets fit a Nalgene, THANK YOU! Every pack should have easy to access side pockets for your water bottle. It is so frustrating to have to open you pack every time you want a drink, plus you can grab your bottles while you are hiking without having to take the pack off. Note the shock cord above the pocket to stash you wind jacket on those days when the temps won’t make up their mind.
The pack is padded with a sleeping mat, which is an ingenious lightweight idea. The shoulder straps are super well padded and have plenty of spots to attach you Spot or add a CTUG phone pouch. The waist belt is super comfy and easy to adjust.
The side back of the pack has a large mesh pocket that I find great for storing your maps, gloves, hats, etc. And there is a deep zipper pocket in the front.
Seriously I used this pack on a recent 6 hour hike and I was not fiddling with the strap or adjusters at all. Everything about this pack is just great. You should get in the queue and order yourself this pack.
