Review: Mammut Tatramar Pants

There is always a balance that must be achieved for warmth and breathability in winter pants. Unfortunately with the ones I have used they end up being good at one, but never both. This year I eschewed my usual plan of finding something cheap and on sale in the summer and instead picked up a pair of Mammut Tatramar pants in the fall.

I am really impressed with these pants. They really strike the balance of warmth and breathability. They have been my go-to pants when it is below 20°F. I have used them fat biking, hiking, mountaineering and backpacking.

One of the nice features is the built in vent on the leg. Just enough to keep you from overheating on the climbs. And I dig the netting in the vent so you aren’t accused of indecent exposure!

The built in gaiters do a great job of keeping snow out.

A velcro cuff can keep them tight on your boot or be used to put these on over boots.

A reinforced cuff keeps you from ripping your pants with crampons or edges.

I have been really happy with these. One of the best all around winter gear purchases I have made in year.

Sporty Soft Shell touring pants with pleasantly warming fleece lining and technically thought-out details. As well as the cozy material, they are also distinguished by their light weight.
