Silca pump with hat

Review: Silca Terra Floor Pump // Fat Bike Friendly

Oh Silca Terra Floor Pump where have you been all my life? This amazing pump is just what you need for all your mountain, fat and plus bike needs. It features a two stage gauge accurate in .5 psi increment down to 3PSI, an ingenious chuck and the amazing Silca quality you’ve come to expect. It is basically functional art.

The gauge has a cool trick where it has a graduated/two scales dial making it ideal for low pressure high volume tires. When pumping up something like a fat bike, plus or mountain bike the gauge is accurate down to .5 PSI. When you need to go higher like on a gravel tire the gauge jumps up to 2 PSI increments as the pressure goes above 30 PSI. I haven’t put more than 18 PSI in a tire in maybe 8 years, so this is perfect for my use case.

Before we get into the testing let’s go over some of the nice features of the Silca Terra pump. First up is the solid ash handle with a groove that secures the hose and handle. The handle just exudes quality.

The pump head departs from the traditional Silca push on chuck to an aluminum head with a lever. It has a very positive grip that bleeds no air when attaching and detaching. It easily switches between presta and schrader by just reversing the thread on end.

The Silca Terra features full metal construction including the super stable base.

Testing

I tested the pumps accuracy using a Meiser 0-15 PSI Accu-Gage on a 26×4.8″ tire and a 27.5×2.8″ tire.

On the fat bike tire at 3-5 PSI testing at 1 pound increments it was a 100% match between the two gauges. When going from 14-17 PSI on the 27.5×2.8 tire the two gauges were also a match.

How does this compare to other pumps? It blows them out of the water. It is in a class of its own. I have tried a few other pumps marketed as low pressure specific and they were not good. The Specialized Air Tool was 300% off below 10 PSI. The Silca Terra is a game changer.

Conclusion

The Silca Terra Pump is the pump to which all other low pressure pumps should be judged. It makes a mundane object such as a bike pump essentially an heirloom piece. You’ll be buying a pump for a lifetime, in fact it has a lifetime warranty. If you are riding low PSI tires, this is the pump you need.
