I am having a bit of a love affair with Canyonrims Recreation Area. When Moab is full of tourists this area is empty. Also it has almost no information beyond these old FA Barnes books and their associated maps. The area has practically no official hiking trails, one exception is Trough Springs Canyon. It is well marked and fun! I did a short overnighter in the canyon. Which winds its way down a steep trail to the canyon bottom and eventually to Kane Creek. There is plenty of water at the bottom, but be warned – there is soooooo much cow poop I would not trust filtering it. Heck it was hard to find a spot big enough to pitch the tent that was clear of cow pies. Anyhow it is great and you should hike it.
