You can certainly go down the rabbit hole of ultra light gear too far and end up buying expensive disposable products. Luckily for you Enlightened Equipment does not make that. They’ve really struck the balance of light and durable with all the gear they make. I’ve been using their Torrid Pullover for a few months now on my bikepacking and backpacking trips and am really stoked on it. The Enlightened Equipment Torrid Pullover is a bargain for handmade durable ultralight gear.
The Torrid Pullover is handmade in Winona Minnesota either in custom or ready to ship styles. You can grab a ready to ship pullover or customize the heck out of. I love the marsupial/pass-through pocket and ample adjustable hood for around camp chores. I’ve used this coat on early fall and late winter trips and it has always kept me warm. If it is really cold I’ll pair it with a fleece underneath.
It packs down incredibly small, In fact in that stuff sack I have their gloves and the pullover in that sack. Hey, space counts on the bike. Probably my favorite feature is the Climashield Apex insulation. Which is utlralight, insulates when wet and can be washed. I do not mind down insulation, but the care of it is not good if you are going to perspire in it and need to wash it.
I’m 5’10 and 152 pounds, the medium fits me with room to spare for layering. Well, I love this pullover for use while hiking, backpacking and bikepacking. It is still ultralight, I would not go bushwhacking through thick pointy underbrush in this. But I also wear it a lot and it shows no signs of use. The weight is minimal, fit is perfect and it is great for sleeping in when you are pushing the limits of your sleeping bag. You should get one. Heck at this price you should get the pants and booties too. I did, review of that stuff soon.
