The folks at ULA Equipment are always designing new great packs… that I need. I first got a ULA pack about six years ago; the ULA Catalyst <\/a> and it was a revelation for me, after seeing how ULA could combine lightweight and durability I lightened up all of my backpacking gear. A few years after that I picked up their Photon<\/a> pack for long winter days in the mountains. And this year they released two new packs in their “Everyday” line. I have been using the heck out the new ULA Packrat. It is day pack perfection!<\/p>\n

The pack is based around one a single large main 25L compartment with a nylon drawstring collar to secure your gear.  The collar expands to nearly double the size of the pack. <\/div>\n

The webbing strap can be used to simply secure the pack or even strap a coat or climbing rope to the outside. <\/div>\n

Inside the pack there are two zippered pockets for storing your keys, SPOT tracker, wallet, etc. One is fixed and the other is removable. <\/div>\n

The back panel benefits from the foam padding of the 15″ laptop sleeve to give it some rigidity and keep odd shaped things from poking you. <\/div>\n

Unlike most packs in this size and price range they did not skimp on the shoulder straps. They are shaped, padded, have d-rings and a sternum strap. <\/div>\n

The outside of the pack has a set of 3 stretchy pockets, the side pockets happen to be a perfect fit for Nalgene bottles.<\/div>\n

The center pocket is large, which is great for stashing your often needed items like hats and gloves. Or maybe just your map and snacks. <\/div>\n

I really like the design of this pack. I have been using it for hiking all over the desert, a few bike rides, the gym, etc. If I didn’t work from home, it would make a great work bag for your laptop and other office needs. If you are looking for an all around daypack, then just go look at the packrat from ULA.  It is available in a myriad of colors and fabrics for you to choose from.<\/div>\n
