I have been wearing the GoLite Borrego Softshell Jacket for the past few months and really like it. I mostly have worn in hiking and snowshoeing, but I’ll break it out on cold snowy bike rides too. I have had two Shoftshell coats, but they were cycling specific and quite a bit heavier weight. This works well when you are moving around building up heat, its great for high output activities.<\/p>\n

The coat is a bit on the baggy side, which is cool if you have want to throw a vest on underneath. It has one of my favorite features, pit zips. Every winter coat should have them.<\/p>\n

It also has a nice napoleon pocket.<\/p>\n

And two fleece waist pockets. Not to mention a nice full Softshell hood. <\/p>\n

In snow, it keeps water from coming through for quite some time. After two hours or so in dumping snow it still collects on the coat and not melting through. <\/p>\n

GoLite has an interesting market plan, they now only sell directly to consumer. This coat was $99, my wife has an OR Softshell coat, hers is made of significantly thicker material. I think this coat is great for the money, but it is not the same as a coat from OR, Marmot, Patagonia, etc. It’s construction is a little bit less burly and it misses a few things, like no internal pockets, no way to roll the hood up, and no port to run your headphones through to the chest pocket. <\/p>\n

All that said, I’d buy this coat again in a minute. For $99 you can’t beat it. <\/p>\n
