Possibly a bit too much. I have previously raved about the Osprey Raptor 10 and somehow in my cross country move it went missing. I have a larger pack I use in the winter when I need to carry tons of extra layers. But for summer when I am riding 2 hours or less I wanted a reasonable size bag. The Osprey Viper 7 is what I am using and really like it.

The Viper 7 has a flasher loop on the bottom and a shock cord mesh to attach that extra layer to.

They outside has a lid loc helmet attachment, which I have to admit I never used on the old one and haven’t yet on this one. It holds 2 liters of water, which is plenty for a short afterwork ride all the way through a few hours.
I took this to Moab and Fruita this spring and used it on 4 hour rides just running out of water in the last 15 minutes.

As always, a favorite feature of the Osprey packs is the magnetic bite valve attachment.
