This past winter I made the mistake of borrowing a Surly Neckromancer from my local bike shop. Well like the two wheeled drug pushers they are, I got that first hit for free and ended up buying one. Conveniently living above 8000′ I have a 6 month snow riding season. I rode this bike…sheesh… five days a week during that time. And I smiled on every ride.<\/p>\n

It’s not *real* mountain biking. You go slow, you fall, you walk, oh you walk a lot. But it is so much fun. It’s ridiculous, the fun on a snow bike is off the charts.<\/p>\n

We’ve all suffered through winter riding, with numb feet, numb hands and pretended we liked it. But with a snow bike you buy yourself the right gear and you are warm and happy the whole time.<\/p>\n

First you need flat pedals. I am no fan of SPDs in the winter. Couple these with some burly Sorels and you’ll have warm feet.<\/p>\n

That takes care of the feet, on to the hands. You can wear big mountaineering mitts or a pair of Pogies.<\/p>\n

And for clothing, I wear a neck gaiter and regular winter clothes.I wore a pair of Mountain Hardwear Goretex bibs all season. <\/div>\n

And it’s a well known fact, dogs love fat bikes.  Fat bikes are just a blast, it takes all seriousness out of riding. My wife borrowed one too and loved it.<\/p>\n

So guess who’s house has two fat bikes in it now?<\/p>\n
