It also takes up the most space in your bag, so getting the right bag for the season is important. I already have both a Therm-A-Rest 0° and 20° bag, but since I have been living full time in the desert I needed something lighter. In the summer and early fall in the desert the temps are high and they can dip from the 60s to the 40s at night. Yup even though the daytime high in October might be 80° the nights are cold, the temps drop quick once the sun goes down in the desert. I’ve had the Space Cowboy for 6 months now and during the warm times of the year it is a 1 pound 4 ounce dream machine.

While it packs small, it is a full size bag when out of the stuff sack. You have plenty of room for sleeping, but be careful of how cold it will be at night. I pair this with the Therm-A-Rest Neoair Uberlight for a super small bikepacking setup. In the summer it is perfect, if you are pushing the seasons just keep in mind you are going to have a cold night if it is in the 40s. Heck even if you all your layers on, it can be a cold one! I have used this down to 45, but I had ultralight down pants and a down coat on, my feet were freezing – I should have brought booties. But on 55° and higher nights you’ll be super comfortable.

This is great for your lightweight backpacking setup for warm nights. Just bring some layers if it is going to be on the low side of the temperature range. It is light and small and I am super glad I have it.

Therm-A-Rest says: https://www.thermarest.com/sleeping-bags-and-quilts/fast-and-light/space-cowboy-45f7c-sleeping-bag/space-cowboy-45.html

The feather-weight Space Cowboy is built with eraLoft™ synthetic insulation to endure the rigors of backpacking and cowboy camping in variable conditions.
