But really in the west where all we have is lodgepole pines, you really can’t make a good bear bag without using two ropes and hanging it between two trees. I usually backpack by myself and most bear canisters are not made for people like me. Actually I’ll go even further most bear canisters are gigantic and not made for most people! After some googling and a bad purchase of BearVault 450, I found the Bare Boxer Contender 101. The perfect solution to short trips or solo adventures.

The BareBoxer has a locking top with stainless steel widgets for opening.

The lock can be operated with a key or the screwdriver part of a pocket knife. Beyond the fact that the BV450 canister was gigantic, it was impossible to open. Seriously, just google it, there are a ton of videos on tricks to open it. I don’t need anything that requires tricks when you are trying to get your food on a cold morning. That is why the mechanical locks of the BareBoxer are so much better.

Even if I could use a bear bag, I wouldn’t know that I have a Bare Boxer.
