A good night’s sleep is key to enjoying your time in the backcountry. I’ve been a Therm-A-Rest user for decades because they make durable quality gear. Now that I have been doing more adventures in warmer weather I wanted to leave my trusty Therm-A-Rest NeoAir XTherm at home for something lighter on milder nights. Weighing nearly 30% less than the XTherm the NeoAir Xlite NXT is my goto pad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NeoAir feature Therm-A-Rest’s handy wing valve which allows for quick deflation and acts as a one way valve during inflation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 3″ thick this pad makes for an incredibly comfortable night’s sleep. You won’t be waking up with your hip getting poked by a rock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three inches of pad size not only makes you comfortable it also gives you an R value of 4.5 which means you’ll be warm on all but the coldest nights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of inflation Thermarest includes a sack for inflating the bag that locks onto the valve. Which can be handy if you are setting up camp in thinner air. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XLite NXT packs down to the size of a Nalgene and easily fits in a seat bag on your bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XLite features a quieter fabric than the previous generation. I have an older Uber Lite and while I never noticed the noise, reviews on mail order sites were full of comments on that. If you need a year round sleeping pad go for the Therm-A-Rest NeoAir XLite NXT.
