On a recent bikepacking trip my friend had two flats, luckily I had my original Lezyne Micro Floor Drive pump with me and we were pedaling again in no time. Since I have had that pump more than a decade I figured maybe it was time for an upgrade. I perused the Lezyne site and ordered the Micro Floor Drive XL. One thing you know when getting Lezyne gear is that it is well thought out and and feels like a finely crafted instrument. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lezyne describes the Micro Drive XL a hand pump sized pump designed for fatbike and plus bike tires. I\u2019d say that is partially correct, it is a really large hand pump, more like a foot pump since it about a foot long. But it really does push a ton of air making fatbike trail repair a breeze. Plus it just looks really nice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has a neat reversible chuck for either presta or schrader valves. The valves threads into the base keeping dirt and debris out of the pump while riding. One thing to keep in mind is that you don\u2019t want to thread it on too tight or it will remove the presta valve core. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pump also has a handy little foot peg to use while pumping up your tire. It folds away when not in use.

Now comparing it to the Micro Drive it is bigger and almost twice as heavy. The new XL tips the scale at 12.9 oz where the original was 7.0 oz. And this is why I leave the XL in my gear bag. I just can\u2019t add that much extra weight to the bike for the once a decade flat I get on my fat bike. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is this the bike pump for you? If you are still running tubes, maybe. But with tubeless fat bike tires I carry the smaller Micro Floor Drive just based on weight. I do keep this in my bike bag that I take in the car with me. So not a total loss for me.
